Lake house at Rookery farm is an unique conversion project in the heart of the Somerset countryside. The  former farmstead had numerous outbuilding, one of which was a fully insulated and heated helicopter storage and maintenance hanger. The client’s brief was to transform this dowdy agricultural building into a stunning, contemporary home.

The design, incorporates a new steel inner structure, provides a new upper mezzanine housing glass fronted bedrooms, which overlook the cavernous double height living and dining areas. The main hanger doors have been removed to form an inset of full height glass sliding doors which frame a new courtyard. The design also incorporates a 12m indoor swimming pool, cinema room and office. The exterior was over-clad with untreated larch and new motorised rooflights and large windows ensure natural light through out.

The open plan ground floor living area is generous and linked to the new upper bedroom floor with a hung glass fronted balcony. The redundant hanger has been transformed into a truly impressive modern house.
