Midmar was a 1960’s bungalow set back on a mature plot on the northern slopes of Bath.
dm3a was asked by the client to replace the outdated building with a modern, contemporary home. The design ethos was to located the new dwelling on the original bungalow’s footprint but adapt the section of the single storey proposal to the sites slope. By stepping the section, the open plan home gains height to the family spaces whilst keeping the bedroom zone private. With new planting to complement the existing mature walled garden planting, a contemporary piece of modern architecture is crafted into the landscape.
Even though the style is modern, the use of dressed Bath stone and considered window proportions, the new dwelling sits more comfortably on the site than the original bungalow.
